Real costs, honest answers and the part most people skip: how to build the income that pays for your life here. From someone already living it.
Most of us grew up with one story about the continent, and much of it came from people who never lived here.
The opportunity is real. So are the hard parts. The answer isn't hype or fear. It's documented truth: real numbers, real mistakes and real lives being built here every week.
The Gambia, since 2021
In March 2021, I moved my family from Texas to The Gambia. I built a home here, homeschool my children here, and run my business from here. In January 2026, I opened a leadership school for African girls.
"They told you going back was a downgrade. They were wrong."
Most moves don't fail because of the heat, the power cuts or the paperwork. They fail when the money runs out. Every way to live well here comes back to one of three paths.
Remote work keeps your income steady while you settle.
Fastest, but someone else controls it.
Turn what you know into income that moves with you, wherever you live.
This is how I earn. Start before you go.
Serve real demand locally, from services to short-term rentals.
Needs local knowledge and capital.
A job can be taken away from 5,000 miles away. A business you own can't. On the channel, I show you how all three work, with real numbers.
Straight answers, not romance.
The Gambia is one of the safer countries on the continent, and the neighborhood you choose matters more than country-level statistics. I break down safety, area by area, on the channel.
The internet where I live is fast enough to run a U.S.-based business. Schools are limited, which is one reason we homeschool. Routine healthcare works; for serious care, families plan regionally or internationally.
Most people who thrive here earn in one of three ways: a job they take with them, an online business, or a business on the ground. I run my business from The Gambia, and I show the math on the channel.
No. I live in The Gambia, so that's what I know firsthand. The Starter Kit and the session work for any country in Africa, and I'll tell you exactly what to check for yours.

The Outlast School is a three-year virtual leadership academy for African girls, opened in January 2026. Its first cohort of 21 girls comes from Nigeria and The Gambia.
Year one, they become published authors. Year two, mentors. Year three, they launch ventures.

I've coached 750 people, built a seven-figure coaching business, and spoken on stages from the Palais des Congrès in Paris to the Congressional Black Caucus. Make Money in Africa is where I share what it really takes to move here, and to earn here.
